Customer
SRG-Urakointi is a long-term contruction company, with wide experience on renovation and new construction.
Senaatti is the owner and developer, which maintains cultural and historical sites belonging to the state of Finland.
Results
The project had a tight schedule. Owner and user had the need to complete the renovation during longer than usual 4 month summer break, so that Opera’s autumn season could resume in August.
SRG’s share of the project was completed weeks ahead the schedule and under budget. Especially repetitive parts of the work succeeded very well.
WHAT was done
The Helsinki Opera House is now 30 years old. The building was renovated partly in the summer of 2023, Renovation included the main stage, HVAC at the foyer, 47 changing rooms, saunas and renewal of 6km of sewage plumbing.
Mestamaster was involved in upgrading the HVAC, renovating the sewers and refurbishing the changing rooms.
HOW it was done
The project started with workshops focusing on making the schedule, and quickly moved directly to the construction phase. Mestamaster was involved throughout the entire project, organising the morning huddles.
The contractor had seven working days per week available. Unconventionally three days’ takt was used for the site, divided into two takts per week.
Testimonials
"The schedule was given special attention here and everyone, including the subcontractors, followed it meticulously. In the areas with repetitive work, such as bathrooms, the work was completed well ahead of schedule."
